Ayurveda's structured cleansing programme, explained honestly: what it is, who it suits, what to ask, and how to plan it safely.
In short: Panchakarma is a three-stage programme: preparation, up to five cleansing procedures, then recovery. It needs a qualified doctor, a medical history and suitable facilities. It is not a quick detox and is not suitable for everyone. We start with a consultation to decide whether it is right for you.
Full cleansing procedures are performed in a supervised facility, and we will tell you plainly which parts suit a home setting.
Outcomes cannot be guaranteed. See our medical disclaimer.
Panchakarma means "five actions". It is a structured Ayurvedic cleansing programme with preparation, main procedures and a recovery period, planned for the individual by a doctor.
Vamana (therapeutic emesis), Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Basti (medicated enema), Nasya (nasal therapy) and Raktamokshana (bloodletting, used selectively). Most people do not need all five.
A full programme commonly runs one to three weeks including preparation and recovery. The doctor decides based on your condition.
Preparatory therapies such as oil massage and sweating can be done at home with a trained therapist. The main cleansing procedures need medical supervision and suitable facilities.
Pregnant women, children, very weak or acutely ill people and those with serious heart, kidney or liver disease need specific medical advice and may not be suitable.
Tell us your condition, medicines and plans. We will advise whether Panchakarma is appropriate and how to prepare.
